Adorable Babies Halloween Carved Pumpkin Hat - Free Pattern!

With Halloween around the corner we thought it would be appropriate to bring out this little number for all of the mums or dads out there who want a quick little Halloween costume that looks fantastic!

You will need:

-          Orange, Green and Black DK (8ply) wool

-          4mm crochet hook (you will use this hook size for all the parts for this hat)

-          Scissors

-          Tapestry needle

-          A child to put the hat on!

No stitch abbreviations were used in this pattern to make it more beginners friendly!

Note: This hat will fit a child up to 12 months or a little over, to make it bigger simply repeat the increasing rows to make it wider.

Pumpkin Hat Base

Begin with green wool and a magic loop,

In the magic loop put 6 half double crochets, tighten the loop then join your round together with a slip stitch, chain 2

Rnd 1-6: 1 half double crochet into every stitch in the round, join with a slip stitch and chain 2 (6)

Rnd 7: 2 half double crochets into every stitch in the round, join with a slip stitch (12)

Finish off and weave in any loose ends with a tapestry needle

Turn the stalk inside out before continuing – This can be difficult as it is so thin so take your time and use a crochet hook to help you pull the stalk inside out if you have to.

Now attach the orange wool, you may wish to use double strands of wool at this point to make the hat thicker but the hat still looks equally good with just 1 strand.

Rnd 8: 2 half double crochets into every stitch around the stalk, join with a slip stitch and chain 2 (24)

Rnd 9: *2 half double crochets into the first stitch, 1 half double crochet in the next stitch* repeat from *to* till the end of the round, join with a slip stitch and chain 2 (36)

Rnd 10: *2 half double crochets into the first stitch, 1 half double crochet in the next 2 stitches* repeat from *to* till the end of the round, join with a slip stitch and chain 2 (46)

Rnd 11-25: 1 half double crochet into every stitch in the round, join with a slip stitch and chain 2 (46)

Finish off and weave in the tail with a tapestry needle.

The core hat is now done; you may now use any method you like to put a face on your pumpkin.

A couple methods include using felt to cut out the shapes and stick them on, drawing them on with a black marker or crocheting them, we have included the crochet patterns below for the last method J
