We aren't going to promise that we will post as often as we did a few months back but we will be posting more regularly now the orders have died down enough for us to focus on creating new patterns and stuff :)
This little pattern came about after we had a good friend of our point out we had never really done anything like this before and where she works there has been a boom in Frozen related sales so we decided to give it a go and this is the result! :)
True to most things on this blog it is very quick to do! you can easily have this done in an hour or less plus you can get quite a few out of 1 ball of wool which is always good!
This pattern is worked in sets of 6, this means that you can adjust this pattern to fit any head size as long as your beginning chain ends in a multiple of 6.
For this pattern we will be making the crown to fit a child between the ages of 5-7, if you wish to adjust the size feel free to do so as the principles of this pattern stay the same :)
You will need:
- 1 Ball of Blue DK (8PLY) wool
- 4mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry needle
Begin by splitting your ball of blue wool into 2, basically just roll another ball out of it until you get to about half way.
For this pattern you will be working with 2 strands of wool at the same time, just crochet as normal but use both strands at the same time! this is so the crown is more solid and stable when being worn.
To begin, chain 60
Join the two ends together by slip stitching into the first chain to create one big loop.
Rnd 1) Chain 2, half double crochet into every stitch till you get back to the beginning point, join with a slip stitch (60)
Rnd 2-4) Repeat round 1 (60)
You will now begin to make this headband look like a crown, please read the instructions carefully to create the points.
Rnd 5) Chain 1 and single crochet into the same space as the chain, *skip the next 2 stitches, in the 3rd stitch do 3 double crochet, chain 4 and another 3 double crochet, now skip another 2 stitches and single crochet into the next stitch* repeat everything within the ** all the way around the hat, if you correctly had a multiple of 6 then you shouldn't have any extra stitches left over, if you have a few feel free to fill them with a few extra single crochet or undo your work and start again.
Finish off and use a tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends to complete the crown.
And there you go the crown is finished! you can easily leave it like that or you can add extras such as snowflakes to make it more Frozen related or you can add Elsa style hat to the back as shown below.
To do the hair simply measure out a length of white wool to the length you want the braid to be between your hands, then begin wrapping the wool around and around till it is the thickness you would like, use an extra bit of wool to secure the whole lot together and braid it, secure the end with a hair tie or more wool and tidy up the ends with a pair of scissors before using a tapestry needle to securely sew the braid to the crown at the back.
And you're done! Now you can make your little princess an actual crown to make her feel really special!
