Finish off and weave in loose ends
For the brim:
Taking the ball of wool you are working with and split it into 2 by rolling a second ball out of it till you have equal amounts.
You will be working with 2 strands of wool to make the brim more sturdy
The brim will be 22 stitches long so make sure to attach your yarn 11 stitches from the centre of the front of the hat so the brim will be even.
Please read the following instructions carefully as it can get confusing a little!
Taking both strands of wool, attach it to the hat
Row 1: SC in next Stitch, 2 SC, *SC in next 2sts, 2 SC in next st* repeat from *to* until last 5 st, SC in next 2 sts, SS in next st (22 sts ) *chain 1 TURN
Row 2: Sl st in next SC, CH 1, SC in next 2 SC, SC and HDC in next SC, HDC into each st until last 5 st, HDC and SC in next SC, SC in next 2 SC, slip st in next 2 sc, ch 1 and turn
Row 3-5: Repeat row 2
Row 6: SC in each St across the brim
Finish off and weave in ends
To make the band:
Using your choice of wool:
Row 1: SC into the second ch from the hook and to the end of the row (5), ch 1 and turn
Row 2: SC into each sc, ch 1 and turn (5)
Row 3 - however many you need: repeat row 2
Make enough rows so the band is roughly the same length as the brim of the hat
Finish off leaving a very long tail for sewing
Position the band just above the brim of the hat as shown here:
Using a tapestry needle, sew around all the edges to attach the band to the hat.
Finish off and weave in loose ends.
Attach two funky looking buttons to the sides of the band and you're all done!
This hat can be customised to suit your needs however you like, you may choose to add a flower to the side of your hat for instance rather than the band.
As always please feel free to leave us a comment and share pictures of your creations with us either through our email or of course our facebook page :)
